WHAT IS WORLD THEATRE DAY
World Theatre Day is celebrated on 27 March annually across the world. It is started by International Theatre Institute (ITI) in 1961 to raise the importance of the art form "theatre" and to act as a wakeup call for governments, politicians, and institutions that have not yet recognised its value to the people and also have not realised its potential for economic growth. The day celebrates the essence, beauty, and importance of theatre arts, their significant role in entertainment, and the symbolic impact that theatre has on life.
SIGNIFICANCE OF WORLD THEATRE DAY
1. Since ancient Greece, theatre has been a popular form of art and entertainment — thrilling its audiences and leaving them in awe.
2. It entertains and educate its audience
3. It also combines various art forms to give its live audience a real stage experience, which they can’t find anywhere else.
4. Performers of all ages build confidence, learn to work with others, and discover an appreciation for the arts.
5. Audience members are exposed to a new language, culture and methods of storytelling

THEME OF WORLD THEATRE DAY
ITI follows the same theme of 'Theatre and a Culture of Peace' each year. This theme highlights the role theatre plays in unifying various cultures of the world, educating audiences about different cultures and bringing about peace
HOW TO OBSERVE WORLD THEATRE DAY
Different events are organized to mark World Theatre Day every year:-
1. Theatres around the world organize special events, performances, and workshops to celebrate the art of theatre.
2. On this day, theatre professionals come together and discuss the challenges and opportunities in the field of theatre.
3. In addition to celebrating World Theatre Day, the ITI also publishes a message each year from a prominent theatre artist, which is translated into over 50 languages and shared with theatre communities around the world. This message reflects on the current state of theatre and the role it plays in society, and serves as an inspiration to theatre artists and enthusiasts worldwide.
The main objective of World Theatre Day is to raise awareness about the importance of theatre arts in promoting cultural diversity and mutual understanding between people of different cultures.
