 WHAT IS GOOD FRIDAY

Good Friday is among the most important religious days observed in India. It is of major importance to the Christians. Good Friday is thus a Christian holiday commemorating the crucifixion of Jesus and his death at Calvary. It is observed during Holy Week as part of the Paschal Triduum. Many Christians around the world observe Good Friday on the Friday before Easter Sunday. It commemorates Jesus Christ's Passion, crucifixion, and death, which is told in the Christian Bible. It is the day after Maundy Thursday. Good Friday commemorates Jesus' death on the cross.

HISTORY

According to a Testament, Good Friday is the day when Jesus was crucified by the Romans. The Jewish religious leaders had condemned Jesus of blasphemy for claiming to be the Son of God. They were so agitated by Jesus' acts that they brought him to the Romans. Pontius Pilate, a Roman leader, sentenced Jesus to crucifixion. As the story goes, Jesus was beaten publicly and crowned with thorns. In his battered condition, Jesus was forced to carry a heavy wooden cross through the streets amid a jeering crowd. Finally, he was nailed to the cross by his wrists and feet. He was left hanging on the cross until he died.

SIGNIFICANCE

1. Good Friday is also called as Holy Friday and Black Friday.

2. It is a day of mourning. 

3. It is believed that Jesus suffered and died for the sins of humans. This day is, therefore, observed to ask for forgiveness for one's sins. The day signifies the end of all sins.

4. Christians pray that they may be liberated from pain, suffering and agony in their lives. It shows that after all the sins are eliminated, there's a possibility of a new beginning, which is signified by Jesus Christ's resurrection on Easter Sunday.

HOW IT IS OBSERVED

1. Many people fast and attend religious services on Good Friday. 

2. Churches hold special rituals to commemorate Jesus Christ's suffering and muffle their bells as a sign of mourning.

3. Christians also drape a black cloth over all crosses, photographs, and statues to symbolise Jesus Christ's death.

गुड फ्राइडे भारत में मनाए जाने वाले सबसे महत्वपूर्ण धार्मिक दिनों में से एक है। ईसाइयों के लिए इसका विशेष महत्व है। गुड फ्राइडे इस प्रकार एक ईसाई अवकाश है जो कलवारी में यीशु के सूली पर चढ़ने और उनकी मृत्यु की याद दिलाता है। यह पाश्चल ट्रिडुम के हिस्से के रूप में पवित्र सप्ताह के दौरान मनाया जाता है। दुनिया भर के कई ईसाई ईस्टर संडे से पहले आने वाले शुक्रवार को गुड फ्राइडे मनाते हैं। यह ईसा मसीह के जुनून, सूली पर चढ़ने और मृत्यु का स्मरण करता है, जिसे ईसाई बाइबिल में बताया गया है। यह मौंडी गुरुवार के बाद का दिन है। गुड फ्राइडे क्रूस पर यीशु की मृत्यु की याद दिलाता है।

एक वसीयतनामा के अनुसार, गुड फ्राइडे वह दिन है जब ईसा मसीह को रोमनों ने सूली पर चढ़ाया था। यहूदी धार्मिक नेताओं ने ईश्वर का पुत्र होने का दावा करने के लिए यीशु की ईशनिंदा की निंदा की थी। वे यीशु के कार्यों से इतने उत्तेजित हुए कि उसे रोमियों के पास ले आए। पोंटियस पिलाट, एक रोमन नेता, ने यीशु को सूली पर चढ़ाने की सजा सुनाई। जैसे ही कहानी आगे बढ़ती है, यीशु को सार्वजनिक रूप से पीटा गया और कांटों का ताज पहनाया गया। अपनी पस्त हालत में, यीशु को उपहास करने वाली भीड़ के बीच सड़कों पर एक भारी लकड़ी का क्रॉस ले जाने के लिए मजबूर होना पड़ा। अंत में, उसे उसकी कलाइयों और पैरों से क्रूस पर ठोंक दिया गया। उसे तब तक क्रूस पर लटकाया गया जब तक कि उसकी मृत्यु नहीं हो गई।

महत्व

1. गुड फ्राइडे को होली फ्राइडे और ब्लैक फ्राइडे भी कहा जाता है।

2. यह शोक का दिन है।

3. ऐसा माना जाता है कि यीशु ने मनुष्यों के पापों के लिए कष्ट सहा और मरा। इसलिए यह दिन अपने पापों की क्षमा मांगने के लिए मनाया जाता है। यह दिन सभी पापों के अंत का प्रतीक है।
