WHAT IS WORLD BOOK AND COPYRIGHT DAY 23 APRIL
United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has been promoting the habit of reading books by observing "World Book and Copyright day" on 23rd April. Reading books has taken a backseat since the promotion of internet, media and reading electronic gadgets. Books are our best friends and UNESCO aims to encourage younger generation to inculate the habit of reading.
HISTORY
23rd April happens to be the death anniversary of popular writers namely William Shakespeare, Miguel Cervantes, Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, and the birth anniversary of greats like Haldor K Laxness, Maurice Druon, Vladimir Nabokov, Josep Pla and Manuel Mejía Vallejo. Therefore, 23rd April is chosen and observed as "World Book and Copyright Day"
SIGNIFICANCE OF BOOKS
Significance of books in one's life cannot be denied. Apart from knowledge and information, books play a very essential role in building a person's character, his culture and social values and overall personality development. Books are a vital part and parcel of our lives. The more we read, the more knowledgeable we become. And this helps us in taking informed decisions in our life be it personal, educational, pertaining to career or even matrimonial. By reading books of renowed authors, we learn from their experiences and get in a better organised way to deal with different kinds of situations that come our way. Books also bridges the gap between generations. They help in passing knowledge from previous generations to the present ones and then to future generations.
THEME FOR WORLD BOOK DAY 2023
The theme for World Book Day 2023 is “Indigenous Languages.” The theme is focused on the native languages of a country.
CELEBRATION OF THIS DAY
Each year, on 23 April, celebrations take place all over the world to recognize the scope of books, and aims at inculating the habit and enjoyment of reading books. Various book exhibitions and workshops are also organised to enable younger generation understand the importance of books.

23 अप्रैल विलियम शेक्सपियर, मिगुएल सर्वेंटेस, इंका गार्सिलसो डे ला वेगा जैसे लोकप्रिय लेखकों की पुण्यतिथि और हल्दोर के लैक्नेस, मौरिस ड्रून, व्लादिमीर नाबोकोव, जोसेप प्ला और मैनुअल मेजिया वैलेजो जैसे महान लेखकों की जयंती है। इसलिए, 23 अप्रैल को "विश्व पुस्तक और कॉपीराइट दिवस" के रूप में चुना और मनाया जाता है।
पुस्तकों का महत्व
