INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY
International Nurses Day is celebrated every year on 12 May to highlight the contribution of nurses in the healthcare sector. Along with doctors, scientists and technologists, nurses also play a very major role in the health sector. In fact, nurses are in the forefront. They are the "Fronline Warriors" who take care of the patients in a compassionate manner so that healing and recovery takes place easily. This day recognizes nurses' dedication and compassion in delivering quality healthcare services to the nation.
HISTORY OF INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY
In 1974, the International Council of Nurses declared that the birth anniversary of Florence Nightingale be celebrated as International Nurses Day.Florence Nightingale was a British nurse and social reformer. She laid the foundation of modern nursing. She is also known as the “Lady with the Lamp” around the world. This is because she worked for wounded soldiers during then Crimean War, which was fought between 1853 and 1856. During the war in 1854, Florence Nightingale along with other women treated wounded British troops, procured medicines and necessary equipment, and ensured that wards were clean and hygienic. Florence Nightingale also worked at night with a lamp in her hand due to which she got the title of the “Lady with the Lamp”.

The theme for this year's International Nurses Day is “Our Nurses, Our Future”
IMPORTANCE OF NURSES
1. Nurses around the world provide tireless service to their patients and have an immense contribution in the global healthcare system.
2. The purpose of this day is to raise awareness about the importance of nursing as a profession and the need for continued support and investment in nursing as a profession. Nurses play various diverse roles in hospitals, clinics, research centres etc.
3. Nurses have also paid a key role during COVID-19 pandemic.The Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) was declared as a pandemic by WHO (World Health Organisation) and nurses even risked their lives as well as life of their family members but continued to provide uninterrupted services. Knowing that the disease shall expose them to hazards that put them at risk of infection, they were still key players in treating the patients.
4.It is a time for each one of us to express gratitude to nurses worldwide for their invaluable services and commitment to the healthcare sector.

स्वास्थ्य सेवा क्षेत्र में नर्सों के योगदान को उजागर करने के लिए हर साल 12 मई को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस मनाया जाता है। डॉक्टरों, वैज्ञानिकों और प्रौद्योगिकीविदों के साथ-साथ नर्स भी स्वास्थ्य क्षेत्र में बहुत बड़ी भूमिका निभाती हैं। वास्तव में, नर्सें सबसे आगे हैं। वे "फ्रंटलाइन वॉरियर्स" हैं जो मरीजों की करुणामय तरीके से देखभाल करते हैं ताकि उपचार और रिकवरी आसानी से हो सके। यह दिन राष्ट्र को गुणवत्तापूर्ण स्वास्थ्य सेवाएं प्रदान करने में नर्सों के समर्पण और करुणा को पहचानता है।
अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस का इतिहास
1974 में, नर्सों की अंतर्राष्ट्रीय परिषद ने घोषणा की कि फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगेल की जयंती को अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस के रूप में मनाया जाएगा। फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगेल एक ब्रिटिश नर्स और समाज सुधारक थीं। उन्होंने आधुनिक नर्सिंग की नींव रखी। उन्हें दुनिया भर में "लेडी विद द लैंप" के नाम से भी जाना जाता है। ऐसा इसलिए है क्योंकि उन्होंने तत्कालीन क्रीमियन युद्ध के दौरान घायल सैनिकों के लिए काम किया था, जो 1853 और 1856 के बीच लड़ा गया था। 1854 में युद्ध के दौरान, फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगेल ने अन्य महिलाओं के साथ मिलकर घायल ब्रिटिश सैनिकों का इलाज किया, दवाएं और आवश्यक उपकरण खरीदे, और सुनिश्चित किया कि वार्ड साफ थे और स्वच्छ। फ्लोरेंस नाइटिंगेल ने रात में भी हाथ में एक दीपक लेकर काम किया जिसके कारण उन्हें “लेडी विद द लैंप” की उपाधि मिली।
अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस 2023 की थीम
इस वर्ष के अंतर्राष्ट्रीय नर्स दिवस का विषय "हमारी नर्सें, हमारा भविष्य" है।
नर्सों का महत्व
1. दुनिया भर की नर्सें अपने रोगियों को अथक सेवा प्रदान करती हैं और वैश्विक स्वास्थ्य प्रणाली में उनका बहुत बड़ा योगदान है।
2. इस दिन का उद्देश्य एक पेशे के रूप में नर्सिंग के महत्व और एक पेशे के रूप में नर्सिंग में निरंतर समर्थन और निवेश की आवश्यकता के बारे में जागरूकता बढ़ाना है। नर्स अस्पतालों, क्लीनिकों, अनुसंधान केंद्रों आदि में विभिन्न विविध भूमिकाएँ निभाती हैं।
3. नर्सों ने भी COVID-19 महामारी के दौरान एक महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका अदा की है। WHO (विश्व स्वास्थ्य संगठन) द्वारा कोरोनावायरस रोग (COVID-19) को एक महामारी घोषित किया गया था और नर्सों ने अपने जीवन के साथ-साथ अपने परिवार के सदस्यों के जीवन को भी जोखिम में डाला था लेकिन निर्बाध सेवाएं देना जारी रखा। यह जानते हुए कि बीमारी उन्हें उन खतरों के सामने उजागर कर देगी जो उन्हें संक्रमण के खतरे में डालते हैं, वे अभी भी रोगियों के इलाज में प्रमुख खिलाड़ी थे।
4. यह हम में से प्रत्येक के लिए दुनिया भर की नर्सों को उनकी अमूल्य सेवाओं और स्वास्थ्य सेवा क्षेत्र के प्रति प्रतिबद्धता के लिए आभार व्यक्त करने का समय है।
