NATIONAL ANTI-TERRORISM DAY, ITS HISTORY AND SIGNIFICANCE
National Anti- Terrorism Day is observed every year on May 21 to commemorate the death anniversary of our Late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. This day serves as a tribute to the late former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated in a terrorist attack on May 21, 1991.
HISTORY
Former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi was tragically assassinated in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, by a terrorist organisation on May 21, 1991. A woman approached Rajiv Gandhi and appeared to seek his blessings by touching down his feet. She was hiding explosives with her and the bomb detonated. This act of domestic terrorism instilled fear and sorrow among the nation, resulting in the untimely demise of our Prime Minister.
SIGNIFICANCE
1. This day emphasizes the importance of standing against terrorist activities and working towards a world free from violence and terrorism.
2. It serves as an opportunity for individuals to reflect on the impact of terrorism and renew their commitment to promoting peace and security.
