 April Fools' Day- April 1- HISTORY AND ORIGIN

April 1st has been observed all over the world as "April Fools's Day". It is difficult to find the roots of April Fools' day, but going with the information available on this celebration it is seen that April Fools' day has been observed in the United Kingdom for at least 200 years. There are various hypothetical theories that explain the celebration of April Fools' day. However the most prevalent one is that in the 16th century, when Pope Gregory XIII implemented the Gregorian calendar and  January 1 became the new year. However, some people were unware of the change or refused to follow the new change. They continued to observe April 1 as the new year and hence became the target of mockery and ridicule by those who followed the new Gregorian calendar. The general takeaway was that those who refused to follow the new calendar were considered to be fools and made fun of by those who did. Thereby, giving rise to the tradition of April Fools' Day on April 1. It replaced the practice of starting the year at the end of March according to the Julian calendar. France became the first country to accept and implement the new calendar.

As per Britannica, "Some have proposed that the modern custom originated in France, officially with the Edict of Roussillon (promulgated in August 1564), in which Charles IX decreed that the new year would no longer begin on Easter, as had been common throughout Christendom, but rather on January 1. Because Easter was a lunar and therefore moveable date, those who clung to the old ways were the “April Fools.” Others have suggested that the timing of the day may be related to the vernal equinox (March 21), a time when people are fooled by sudden changes in the weather."

CELEBRATION OF APRIL FOOLS' DAY

1. April Fools' Day is celebrated across all the nations worldwide. 

2. While it is one of the days when people get away with almost anything, it is advisable to not go overboard with jokes. 

3. April Fools' Day is a time to have fun with your friends by doing pranks that they will enjoy. 

4. Additionally, this day infuses positivity into our lives. 

5. The occasion also brings friends together as people can get together to create funny moments.

6. Some countries also have traditions associated with April 1. In France, it is customary for children to play pranks on their friends by attaching a paper fish to their backs.

7. In India also kids and adults engage in April Fools' day with joy and enthusiasm. However please refrain from hurting someone. April Fools' day is for enjoyment, which means you must take care of the other person's emotions while playing pranks and keep the celebration healthy.
